Interview with Chris Robinson
Chris Robinson……………… Thanks for taking part in our online interview.
How did you here about Streetcage Sports?
My father is employed with The North West Fire and Rescue service and is in close proximity with the Fire Support Network. From the positive feedback he received surrounding Streetcage Sports, made me aware of a potential opportunity to develop coaching skills within a reputable organisation.
What made you want to get involved with the project?
I was very keen to get involved with Streetcage Sports firstly because of the high recommendations it had received from others at the Fire Support Network. After meeting with the project owners and understanding the way the set up worked, I was eager to start as a volunteer with the project.
How will Streetcage Sports assist you with your future?
As well as gaining vast amounts of football coaching experience, there are a variety of interpersonal and teamwork skills that I have acquired whilst working for Streetcage Sports, these will be instrumental in my future development.
What do you enjoy most about your projects?
Streetcage Sports has provided me with many rewarding experiences. The regular opportunity to engage with youths of local communities and assist in the personal development of others as well as myself has highly enjoyable.
Do the coaches help you with your development and coaching knowledge?
From the start of my time working for Streetcage Sports, every effort has been made by all members of the project to improve my own learning of the skills needed to be a football coach. Whenever I have a question regarding any aspect of coaching knowledge or with my own development within the project, Dave and Matthew as well as all the other coaches have helped me.
Do you think Streetcage Sports is a good idea for youths across The North West?
From my experience with a number of the projects Streetcage Sports runs across The North West, it is very easy to notice the high level of enthusiasm of the local youths that attend. Many of the projects are delivered in areas of social deprivation and Streetcage Sports provides the youths of these areas with an outlet to socially interact, exercise and learn football skills under a controlled environment. My time spent on the ‘Page Moss’ site witnessed a significant reduction in arson directly because of the Streetcage Sports sessions, I have no doubt that this could be replicated in other areas of The North West.
Would you recommend other volunteers to get involved in projects?
