The North West Fire Service’s youth engagement
programme

Achieving
a real and lasting reduction in fires, fire-related deaths and injuries
in The North West requires more than just an effective emergency response
service.
By working with young people in team & individual activities in partnership
with other agencies has helped to achieve safer communities, by creating
fire safe citizens.

A number of organisations across the North West Service has a dedicated Youth Engagement
Team, who deliver a series of award-winning educational programmes, engaging
with a wide range of young people, both marginalized and mainstream.
A number of organisations across the North West Service are currently planning the delivery of Streetcage
projects in areas of The North West where problems with small fires are common
between the hours of 4pm – 9pm each night
Aim
Giving youths the opportunity to take part in a football project that
they will help design outside of the school environment.
The programme is delivered by Streetcage Sports Schools, with the aim
of encouraging youths to respect the area, build links between youths
and the fire brigade and help youths engage in football projects.
Activities include – Free style football, tricks based football,
1 v 1 skill based football and mini tournaments.
Objective
Further develop the strategy in order to reduce the number of young people
roaming the streets during school holidays and evenings and also reduce
the amount of small fires during this time to zero.
Positive engagement with young people in order to achieve safer communities
