Project rural matter

Project rural matters is a community group set up and developed in the area of Neston, Cheshire.  It is ran by members of the local community with its main objective being to change the area of Neston for the better and the opportunities that the are available to the local community.  It is a ‘Community safety’ initiative operating in the rural areas of Chester District.  It aims to involve communities, and in particular volunteers, in helping to tackle local issues such as anti-social behaviour, youth nuisance, road safety, crime prevention and other similar problems which effect peoples quality of life.

1A high visibility Project rural matters ‘people carrier’ has been provided to support the day to day activities of Project rural matters offering additional high profile presence in the community.  Project Rural matters Volunteer drivers can provide positive community safety messages, advice, information and leaflets to local events (fetes, summer fairs, community meetings, etc) and to facilitate youth and other initiatives within the community safety theme.  In addition, the vehicle may be available for the other community transport needs, again using the volunteer drivers.  The project covers the Chester district.1

Streetcage Sports have been working with Project rural matters for the past 3 years and have worked with over 1000 youths in that time across the Neston area.  Our coaching staff has an excellent relationship with both staff and youths in Neston and youths now have a great sense of ownership within the cage and the sessions.

Streetcage Sports is working on a bid along with Ellesmere Port & Neston council to access funding to deliver an after school project in Ellesmere Port and a School project within Neston High School.  The project will hopefully see as many as 20 youths go through the Streetcage Sports education programme (See Education page) and hopefully work up to their full F.A Level 1 and F.A Level 2 Coaching certificates between 2008 – 2010.

The project will see Streetcage Sports staff delivering projects twice a week after school and once a week during school time.  The uptake for the course so far has been fantastic and we really hope that this will be a great success with all youths involved.

Project rural matters board member Carol Stott said ‘Streetcage Sports have been working with project rural matters for 3 years now and their commitment to Youths in the area and the project is fantastic, we really hope to get this education programme off the ground’

Updates and News of the project will be available on the News page throughout the year.
