August 2007 - Knowsley sites off to a flyer

Streetcage Sports opened site one of five last Thursday in Filton lane, Page Moss, Liverpool. The site is just one of the five sites that have been awarded to Streetcage Sports to deliver a 12 month project across 5 areas of Knowsley by the Fire support network, a charity that supports A number of organisations across the North West Service.

The aim of the project is to break down barriers between Fire Fighters & local Youths and hopefully give them an insight into the work that goes on in the area. The site will also see local Fire fighters who complete their level 1 & 2 Coaching awards involved as well as a group of FSN volunteers.

The site was attended by as many as 35 Youths on the opening night & Streetcage Sports expects many more when it’s new ‘PORTABLE CAGE’ arrives for the next session on the estate. The new portable cage, which will become part of the Streetcage Sports road show and cost £14,000, will allow youths to practice their skills and a safe secure unit, whilst taking part in mini-tournaments.

The site was opened by Streetcage Sports head coaching staff David McDermott & Matthew Shannon & was ran by Streetcage coaching staff John & Peter. Local resident Mick said “The kids around here having been in need of something like this for months and we look forward to Streetcage Sports working here over the next 12 months, the kids are loving it and so are the residents”

Its now on to Long View Lane, Huyton for site number 2 and then onto Kirby next week to set up the remaining 3 sites. Check out the News page and Gallery for continued updates on all sites.
